Why doing Shradh is important?
Shradh is an important ritual that is performed after the death of a person, especially among the Hindus. There are many reasons because of which Shradh is performed.  Here are some of the most important reasons for performing the Shradh.
1. It helps the departed soul to move ahead:  It is believed that even when a person dies, the soul exists and it can see and hear everything.  So since the soul is attached to the body and to everyone that was once a part of its life, it wants to be around.  According to the religious texts, it is imperative that the soul comes out of the attachment and realizes that it is time to move forward as their ties with this world and this body has been severed due to death.  So it takes some time for the soul to realize that and when the ritual of Shradh is done the soul accepts the fact of the death and moves on.
2.  To receive the blessings of the departed soul:  According to Garura Purana, our ancestors feel very satisfied when we perform the Shradh ritual.  When our ancestors feel satisfied they bless us with long life, children, fame, heaven, power, and all kinds of abundance.  This helps the soul as well as the family that is left behind on mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual level.
3.  Way of expressing gratitude:  The fact is that our physical existence is because of the existence of our ancestors.  Had our parents and their parents had not met and given birth, we wouldn’t be existing today.  So performing Shradh is a way of expressing gratitude to our ancestors who have passed.  It is believed that when we perform the Shradh our ancestors feel satisfied and progress in the other realms of existence.  And when they feel satisfied and progress we also progress in this world.
According to “Brahma Purana” if one does Shradh with faith and devotion then they get all the blessings and become free from all suffering.
